FP2: Vettel keeps Ferrari clear of Mercedes

Sebastian Vettel has kept Ferrari at the top of the timesheets after the second practice session in Bahrain, as the Maranello squad complete a clean sweep on Friday.

Ferrari headed FP1 in the afternoon, with Charles Leclerc posting a 1:30.354. As darkness fell around the circuit, Vettel managed a 1:28.846 to keep the Italian outfit well clear of Mercedes.

The Silver Arrows were six-tenths behind, with Lewis Hamilton leading his teammate Valtteri Bottas, reversing their positions from the afternoon.

Ferrari didn't enjoy a seamless session, as Vettel spun late on at Turn 2, which also caught out his former teammate Kimi Raikkonen not long after the green lights were shown.

Red Bull didn't find itself directly behind Mercedes, as Nico Hulkenberg sneaked his Renault into 5th place ahead of Max Verstappen. Pierre Gasly failed to finish inside the top ten, ending up in 12th.

Haas found both of its cars finishing inside the top half of the timesheets, with Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean ending up in 7th and 9th respectively.

Lando Norris split the two American cars, while Daniil Kvyat rounded out the top ten in the Toro Rosso.

It was a tough session for Alfa Romeo, who missed out on a chunk of running due to a water leak on both cars. They ended the day towards the bottom of the field, but ahead of Williams

Sergio Perez was 14th, ahead of his teammate Lance Stroll and the second Renault of Daniel Ricciardo, who was 15th.

    • Kvyat faster than Gasly and Danny RIC. Big pressure on both to step up this weekend.

  • Kvyat seem to do really well in that STR, considering the kinda car he is up against. And McLaren look fairly handy this weekend.
