Vettel Opens Up on Possible Red Bull Comeback: “Let’s Wait and See”

Sebastian Vettel has addressed the growing rumours linking him to a potential return to Red Bull. The four-time world champion revealed that earlier discussions about a role within the team “never really got off the ground”, but admits he has not ruled out a Formula 1 comeback — if the right opportunity comes along.

Vettel retired from Formula 1 at the end of 2022 after an illustrious career featuring 53 victories, 299 starts, and four world titles. Since then, the German has focused on sustainability and environmental initiatives. However, his recent appearance in the São Paulo paddock showed that Formula 1 still holds a special place in his heart. Vettel was there to promote his F1REST project and to share his thoughts on developments at his former team.

Vettel Didn’t Expect Horner’s Exit

In an interview with Sky Sports F1, Vettel admitted he was “surprised” by the sudden departure of Christian Horner as Red Bull team principal. “Christian has been there from the very beginning. He knows this team inside out. Everything seemed to be going well this year,” said Vettel, who won all four of his world championships with Red Bull between 2010 and 2013.

The German also had kind words for Horner’s successor, Laurent Mekies. “I know Laurent, I’ve worked with him. He’s a great person. But Christian had a massive influence on the team — he understood everything that was going on and kept everyone together. It’ll be interesting to see how things develop now.”

Could Vettel Return to Red Bull?

When asked whether he could take on a role within Red Bull, Vettel smiled. “I read about it and had a brief chat with Helmut Marko, but nothing ever came of it. It never really gained traction.”

Still, Vettel didn’t sound like someone who has closed the door completely. While he enjoys life away from the sport, the passion clearly remains. “I’m quite happy with where I am, but I still love Formula 1,” he said. “At first, I thought I should take a step back. But I watch the races, I follow everything, and I still love it. I still know most of the guys, so I feel close to it.”

“The Right Opportunity Might Come”

A comeback in a different capacity remains possible. “Will the right opportunity ever come along? Who knows,” Vettel said. “Maybe one day something will appear that fits perfectly. Time will tell.”
