Red Bull drivers happy with double podium

Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen were delighted to return to the podium at the German Grand Prix.

The second and third placed finishes for the pair marked the first time Red Bull had got two drivers in the top three since the Hungarian Grand Prix last year.

For Ricciardo, it was his second podium in as many weeks. His previous highest finish in Germany was sixth place in the sport's last visit to Hockenheim in 2014.

"This is two weekends in a row now with a podium and one of the most refreshing things is seeing so many fans back in Germany," the Australian said after the race. "It’s obviously great to have the race back here after a year off. Thanks for all the support."

"Thanks to Red Bull Racing, I think it’s the first double podium for us in over a year, so it’s awesome to close out the first part of the season [like that]."

While Lewis Hamilton took off into a comfortable lead and Nico Rosberg dropped back after a poor start, the two Red Bull drivers had a good battle on the opening lap.

"It was really close in the first corner with myself and Max. He had a good run on the outside," said Ricciardo.

"We had good start, from there on I think the pace was pretty good. I was enjoying it," added Verstappen.

The Dutchman took third place, and with it, his fourth podium in eight races for Red Bull since his move to the team prior to the Spanish Grand Prix, which he won, earlier this year.

"We chose to do two different strategies on the cars, so I let Daniel by and from there I think we played really well as a team to get a double podium," he said. "That was the main target, to score more points than Ferrari, and that’s what we definitely did today."

After trailing Ferrari for much of the season, Red Bull now sit second in the constructors' table, 14 points ahead of Ferrari who appear to have been struggling for race pace in recent events.
