Lewis Hamilton dominates in Germany

Lewis Hamilton has won the German Grand Prix in dominant fashion to take his sixth win from the last seven races.

The reigning champion got a lightning start from second on the grid while polesitter, Hamilton's Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg got away poorly, loosing out to Hamilton and both Red Bulls.

Rosberg was able to close the gap to third place Max Verstappen after the first round of pit stops and pitted early in an attempt to pass. Red Bull retaliated by bringing Verstappen in too, allowing him to stay in front.

Rosberg was not too far behind though and was able to make a late move at the hairpin which got him past Verstappen but forced the young Dutchman off the road. The incident saw Rosberg slapped with a five second penalty to be taken at his next stop. When the penalty was taken, Mercedes held Rosberg for 8.2 seconds instead of the required five. The team attributed the mistake to a "stopwatch failure".

At the front, Hamilton was not troubled for the lead. Behind him, Ricciardo, who had dropped behind Verstappen in the final round of pit stops, was able to get by his team mate for second place.

After his tough start and the penalty blunder Rosberg was left to settle with fourth place, ahead of the Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen who again struggled for pace in the race.

Nico Hulkenberg finished in seventh place, on position ahead of Jenson Button who scored four vital points for McLaren. Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez, who enjoyed a good battle with Feranado Alonso, completed the top 10.

Esteban Gutierrez again missed out on the points, taking his fourth 11th place finish of the season. He did however manage to finish ahead of Fernando Alonso who failed to score a point at Hockenheim since the circuit was redesigned in 2002.

The race saw no safety car periods and only two retirements with the Brazillian duo of Felipe Massa and Felipe Nasr failing to make the finish.

Hamilton's win sees him extend his championship lead over team mate Rosberg to 19 points as F1 heads into it's summer break. Ricciardo remains in third, 95 points adrift of Hamilton with Raikkonen is still the best of the Ferraris in fourth, just two points ahead of fifth place Sebastian Vettel.
