Nico Rosberg confident he can make the most of pole

Nico Rosberg is confident he can make the most of pole position in tomorrow's Japanese Grand Prix, despite second on the grid traditionally being the stronger starting position.

Rosberg has topped every session so far for the Japanese Grand Prix, leaving Rosberg pleased with his weekend so far going into the race.

"Of course, happy with the result in the end," said Rosberg. "It was going well the whole weekend, I had a good balance in the car, feeling comfortable so that’s what allows me to put in a lap like that in the end. So yeah, pleased with that."

Second place on the grid has tended to be occupied by the eventual race winner, meaning that the start of the race tomorrow will be extremely important.

"For sure the start is going to be an important one tomorrow, " he said. "We’ve seen this weekend that it’s not been too easy because of the downhill and the grips are a little bit lower than usual, so it’ll be an interesting challenge.

"From then on I just need to get the tyre life to do a long enough stint and everything to get the strategy working, so it’s putting everything together," he added.

After Red Bull's win last time out and Ferrari's strong pace in qualifying, Rosberg has said he will be keeping a close eye on the opposition.

"We always have an eye on the opposition, but we're feeling good about everything and think we can be quickest tomorrow," he said.
