Max Verstappen has said that the close fight between him and Red Bull team mate Daniel Ricciardo in the Malaysia Grand Prix highlights the respect between the pair.
The race winning duo fought wheel to wheel on their way to a one-two finish at the Sepang International Circuit, with Ricciardo prevailing ahead of the 19-year-old.
"We had a good and fair fight," Verstappen said of the close battle with Ricciardo before Hamilton's retirement moved them into first and second. "We gave each other room, and I think it shows the respect between us. It looked like it might happen for me but then the Virtual Safety Car came out again."
"The team said we were free to race but in a clean way and that is what we did," he insisted. "Normally you can cruise a bit at the end of the race and it gets a bit less physical but until the last lap we were pushing really hard."
"It's a great result for the team, with a lot of points," added Verstappen. "We can be very pleased with this."
