Carlos Sainz was again 11th fastest, ahead of Sergio Perezm Esteban Gutierrez and team mate Daniil Kvyat.
Renault pair Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer beat both Saubers, Jenson Button was down in 19th after only completing six laps. He had to contend with an earplug issue during the session.
The Manors of Pascal Wehrlein and Rio Haryanto were 20th and 21st fastest, while Romain Grosjean had a difficult session, setting the slowest time and only completing four laps.
