Ericsson: Vasseur "a great signing" for Sauber

Amid a great deal of speculation regarding the fate of its 2018 engine deal with Honda, Sauber's incoming Team Principal Frederic Vasseur has been praised by driver Marcus Ericsson - who hopes the Frenchman's past successes will mean he can do great things with the squad.

Vasseur's motorsport career has seen him lead the ART team to continued success in junior categories, and in 2016 he spearheaded Renault's return to F1 as a works entrant. He left his post at Enstone in January, and is due to start his new job after the British Grand Prix. Ericsson spoke positively of Vasseur's abilities to Motorsport Week.

"I think he's a really good signing for Sauber," said the Swede. "Fred has shown - maybe not in F1, because he's not been that much in F1 - but everything else he's done has been very, very successful. In the paddock when you speak to people he's highly respected, so for the team he's a great signing.

"He's starting on Monday, I'm sure he will put his touch on the team, overall he'll look at different departments and make sure that things are done the way he wants, so it's pretty good."
