Vettel ahead after FP2 in Monaco

Sebastian Vettel has ended the second practice session in Monaco on top after setting an impressive lap time of 1:12.720. The Ferrari looked very impressive around the streets of Monte Carlo, with Vettel's teammate Kimi Raikkonen occupying the third spot in the standings.

Splitting the two Ferrari's was Daniel Ricciardo, whose fastest time was just under half a second away from Vettel. Max Verstappen, in the other Red Bull, could only finish the session in P6.

Mercedes seemed to be struggling with its pace, as Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas ended up eighth and tenth respectively. However, it is widely expected that the Silver Arrows will pick up the pace once again tomorrow.

Toro Rosso will be delighted with its running, as they managed to set the fourth and fifth fastest laps, Daniil Kvyat leading Carlos Sainz. They managed to outpace both Force India's, who have an area of concern after ending the day in seventh and fourteenth.

Only one driver was a victim of the ever present Monaco barriers. Lance Stroll whacked the barriers at top of the hill in sector one, ending his day early. Jolyon Palmer's engine gave up soon after the green light at the start of the session and was forced to park trackside.

Kevin Magnussen ended the session in an impressive ninth position in a Haas that looks to be in a position of claiming points this weekend. However, Grosjean wasn't entirely happy with his car today and could only manage P14.

  • Surely Mercedes' pace in this run wasnt representative? Good run from Toro Rosso, but will they be able to keep up? Interesting position for McLaren.
