Lewis Hamilton has beaten team mate Nico Rosberg to pole position in Malaysia, taking the 100th front row start of his career.
The Brit was the only driver to set a time under 1 minute 43 seconds and was untouchable throughout all three qualifying sessions.
Rosberg meanwhile looked set to miss out on the front row in the final part of qualifying until a late charge put him back alongside the other Mercedes.
Max Verstappen will line up third. He was just over half a second behind Hamilton and beat Red Bull team mate Daniel Ricciardo in qualifying for just the third time this year.
Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen were behind Ricciardo in fifth and sixth, with Force India pair Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg next up in seventh and eighth.
On what could potentially be the final Malaysia Grand Prix for both of them, Jenson Button and Felipe Massa Completed the top ten.
Valtteri Bottas just missed on on the final part of qualifying, he was eleventh, ahead of both Haas drivers, Kevin Magnussen and the Haas pairing of Daniil Kvyat and Carlos Sainz.
Marcus Ericsson, Felipe Nasr, Jolyon Palmer, Esteban Ocon, Pascal Wehrlein, and Fernando Alonso were eliminated in the first part of qualifying.
Alonso was already set to start from the rear of the field due to a penalty for changes of multiple power unit components, therefore he merely set a time within 107% of the pole position lap time to guarantee him a starting spot.
