Sebastian Vettel: "Nobody really has any trust in the extreme wet tyres"

Sebastian Vettel has admitted that drivers don't fully trust Pirelli's full wet tyre.

Formula One came under intense criticism for starting last weekend's British Grand Prix under the safety car, but the four-time World Champion believes F1's wet weather problem lies elsewhere.

"I think what to criticise is not really the call whether to start behind the Safety Car or not, [but] that nobody really has any trust in the extreme wet [tyres]," he said. "So you'd rather take a lot of risk going onto Intermediates, where there was a lot of aquaplaning in the beginning, simply because it's the quicker tyre."

The Ferrari driver said that the problem has been discussed before, and that the current extreme wet tyre is not good enough to race on.

"I think we've [the drivers] mentioned it a couple of times that the extreme wets are basically just good enough to follow the Safety Car, then you want to fit Intermediates."
