Carlos Sainz quashes Renault rumours

Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz has shot down speculation linking him with a move to Renault.

The Spaniard has been the subject of rumours of a proposed move to the Anglo-French outfit in a deal that would see Toro Rosso receive a discount on their engines. They are set to return to Renault power in 2017 after using year-old Ferrari power units in 2016.

However the former Formula Renault 3.5 champion angrily dismissed the claims, asking reports at Silverstone "Am I a currency now?" and calling the proposed move "strange".

Toro Rosso team boss Franz Tost also dismissed denied the rumours, saying: "This is a completely groundless rumour which I can summarise in two words -- utter nonsense."
