Nico Rosberg has taken pole position for the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, beating team mate Lewis Hamilton by 0.107 seconds.
The German's fifth pole position came 30 years to the day since his father's last Formula One pole position, also at Hockenheim.
Rosberg was only able to make one attempt at pole position after an electronic issue blighted an earlier attempt. A lock-up for Hamilton looked to have cost him, although he denied it had any effect on his lap time. In fact, the Brit was quick until he reached the stadium section at the end of the lap.
For the third consecutive race Red Bull out-qualified Ferrari with Daniel Ricciardo in third, ahead of Max Verstappen. Kimi Raikkonen was fifth ahead of hometown hero Sebastian Vettel who had a difficult qualifying session.
Nico Hulkenberg was seventh, two spots ahead of team mate Sergio Perez with Williams driver Valtteri Bottas splitting the two Force Indias. Felipe Massa completed the top 10 but very nearly missed out on the final part of qualifying after being impeded by Carlos Sainz in Q2.
Esteban Gutierrez only just missed out on making the top 10 in qualifying for the first time this season, he was 11th, ahead of Jenson Button and Sainz. Fernando Alonso, Romain Grosjean and Jolyon Palmer were the other drivers to fall in Q2.
However, Grosjean will start in 20th after a five place grid penalty for a gearbox change.
Palmer and Q1 victims Kevin Magnussen, Pascal Wehrlein, Daniil Kvyat, and Rio Haryanto will all move up a place courtesy of Grosjean's penalty.
The Saubers of Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson will occupy the last row of the grid.
