Jenson Button will have to wait until after the Italian Grand Prix in September to find out whether he will be retained by McLaren for an eighth consecutive season.
The 2009 world champion has been the subject of rampant speculation regarding his future for the last two seasons with moves to Williams, and an exit from Formula One among the possible options for Button.
Speaking to the BBC, McLaren CEO Ron Dennis played down the importance of securing Button's future saying: "you just disenchant a driver."
"We're not even talking about it until Monza," he said. "Why should we decide now?"
Stoffel Vandoorne, who scored McLaren's first points of 2016 when he stood in for the injured Fernando Alonso at the Bahrain Grand Prix in April, is expected to take Button's place should the Brit leave the team.
