Hamilton has finished the penultimate day of testing fastest, and by 7 tenths from
Felipe Massa.
However the Brit is still downplaying his chances of a title, I dont think there is any need to be impressed. It is important to bring everyone back down to earth and realize we still have a lot of work to do.
Mercedes are doing a great job in the engine department and the car. But we have not seen Jenson [Button], Sebastian [Vettel] or [Fernando] Alonso in the car today. Its everything to play for still. We wont know until the first race but dont be surprised if we get to the first race and were not a[RIGHT_IMG=51322be14340450fe9c23b085047d8fad514ca9d90297.jpg][/RIGHT_IMG]t the front.
We have got through everything and we are not in deep, deep trouble. Were going in the right direction.
Massa had been third behind
Adrian Sutil, but a number of short runs in the afternoon saw him get closer to Hamiltons time. He was the only driver able to keep the supersoft tyres in a good enough state so that he could extract the maximum grip. His day ended earlier than expected when a tyre detached from the car and started rolling down the track.
A lot of teams brought updates to the track, with new front wing endplates and exhaust/rear bodywork for the Scuderia and
Williams trialing a Red Bull-style rear bodywork design.
3rd to 9th fastest were Sutil, Maldonado, Bottas, Gutiérrez, Webber, Pérez and Vergne.
Kimi Räikkönen was due in the E21 today, however he felt ill and
Lotus had to jet
Romain Grosjean to the circuit to take his place. Before the Frenchman arrived at the track,
Davide Valsecchi was in the cockpit.
After it was announced that
Jules Bianchi would be replacing
Luiz Razia yesterday, he tested the
Marussia MR02 and managed to beat van der Garde to 12th place.
The last day of testing before the Australian Grand Prix is tomorrow.
