Jerez day 2: Grosjean P1 - problems for Mercedes continue

On the second of the four testing days at Jerez, Grosjean was fastest after being third fastest yesterday.

The Frenchman managed to get his E21 around the track in 1:18.218, 6 tenths faster than the time Button set yesterday. Romain completed 95 laps, but stopped on track a few minutes before the session ended. He will now hand over the E21 to Kimi Räikkönen for the next two days.

Paul di Resta continued his good form from yesterday, finishing second fastest with a time of 1:19.003 - three quarters of a second slower than Grosjean's time. Force India's target was to be competitive 'out of the box'. Di Resta equaled the amount of laps that Grosjean completed - 95.

Before he hands over the Toro Rosso STR8 to teammate Jean-Éric Vergne tomorrow, Daniel Ricciardo put the car third fastest, and less than two tenths of di Resta's time. The Aussie was another driver who stopped out on track.

After driving 101 laps, Mark Webber found himself 4th place with a 1:19.338, with Nico Hülkenberg in 5th.

Nico Rosberg's session yesterday didn't last too long, and the same can be said for Hamilton today. He completed 15 laps before an apparent brake failure put him into the tyre wall at the Dry Sack corner.

Hamilton told Sky Sports News: “We had a failure with one of the brake pipes and so when I hit the brakes they didn't work and I just went straight on, it was pretty heavy but it wasn't as bad as I have had in the past.”

In his first testing session with his new McLaren MP4-28, Sergio Pérez finished 7th fastest, with Massa in 8th and Maldonado in 9th - still using the 2012 spec Williams.

Force India had an hour to spare so they sent out simulator driver James Rossiter out on track. He set the 10th fastest lap in the 19 laps he completed.

Giedo van der Garde finished 11th and Luiz Razia had to end his session earlier than expected due to engine problems.

The next testing session is tomorrow.
