Ferrari will decide my future, says Raikkonen

Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen says he does not know if he will be driving for Ferrari next year and it is up to the team as to whether he stays at the team or not.

The Finnish driver has not had the best of seasons for the team so far, settling into a clear number two role in the team behind championship chasing teammate, Sebastian Vettel.

His lack of pace this season has seen him being labelled a “laggard” by Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne and has seen Ferrari drop 33 points behind Mercedes in the constructors standings.

This has made some doubt whether Raikkonen will be re-signed by the team, with several drivers looking to make a claim for the second seat at Ferrari.

Raikkonen himself seemed to be in typical form when asked about his future in the team. He said: "The situation is the same as it was a year ago. You must ask Ferrari if you want to know more. Every year for the past ten years has been pretty much the same story. Of course, people make it a big issue but I'm not stressing about it. Life is more than just here and answering questions."

He did admit that 2017 had not been quite going to plan so far adding: "I'm not happy about how some races have gone, but I cannot change it. I don't even know how many points I have, but in any case it's less than it should be. I know I have the speed, but sometimes it's not enough”

  • Time to go Kimi. You've been severely underperforming for at least 4 years. This year with an actual chance for a championship (or two) your constant falling short of success could cost Ferrari dearly. I would much rather see someone giving Sebastian a hard time and rock the boat a bit at Ferrari.

  • He is officially a support driver. Frequently, rebuked (/insulted) by Boss in public. Not performing any where near his former self. Not paid as well if last rumors are to be believed. Then, he left his fate in the hands of his team, at the age of 37. Please retire with dignity Kimi!

  • Is it me or does kimi seem even more unmotivated this season? He just seems to completely have given up at some points during the season
