Valtteri Bottas is er niet zeker van dat Williams dit seizoen het gat richting Ferrari en Mercedes kan dichten. De stap die Ferrari afgelopen zomer genomen heeft is volgens de Fin te groot.
"Ik heb er vertrouwen in dat wij ons kunnen verbeteren, maar het ligt er ook aan hoe groot de stappen zijn die de teams voor ons maken," aldus de Williams-coureur. "Het ligt aan hen of wij definitief de aansluiting kunnen vinden."
Bottas deelt dezelfde mening als Rob Smedly en Claire Williams. Volgens de laatste krijgt het Britse team een redelijk groot upgradepakket voor de Grand Prix van Spanje. Deze moet Williams helpen het gat richting de voorlopige racewinnaars van 2015 te dichten.
Lekker strijdlustig daar zeg. Ook al zou het de huidige realiteit zijn, dan leg je je er toch niet bij neer, dan knok je met het hele team om de achterstand weg te werken en ga je met volste vertrouwen en na buiten uitspreken dat je doel is met de nieuwe updates voor de winst te willen strijden. Als het dan niet slaagt dan heb je het tenminste geprobeerd, als je gaat voor de 3e plek is de kans op winst een stuk kleiner.
"I think aerodynamics is the main thing and anything we can mechanically improve with the car we are looking at," Bottas said. "All the time I think there is good progress being made in the wind tunnel and I am sure there will be some updates for Barcelona as for everyone I guess, but hopefully we can really close the gap.
"It is still a long way to go until the end of the season and the rate we improved last year was good. I am still hopeful there is enough time to get really close to them."
And Bottas says Williams should not get too disheartened by being the third quickest team this year, highlighting how the team has matched Mercedes over the winter.
"I suppose we are not happy. We wanted to be higher. We wanted to close the gap to Mercedes and at least be the second best team at the beginning of the season. But it is really clear Ferrari has made a big step with its PU and also with its car. I don’t think we have fallen back. I think Ferrari has just improved massively. Our gap to Mercedes is more or less the same as last year."

Zelf denk ik dat ze het derde team blijven met Lotus, RedBull en McLaren later nog erbij op de hielen.
Ferrari en Mercedes zullen doorgaans het podium blijven sieren.
