Former Formula E and IndyCar driver Simona de Silvestro is being courted by the Australian-based Supercars series for a full time drive in 2017.
The Swiss driver is without a drive after Andretti Autosport announced Antonio Felix da Costa alongside Robin Frijns for the upcoming Formula E season, and Supercars could be her next career move, with the series even wiling to help finance a drive for her.
de Silvestro has previously made one start in Supercars, finishing last year's Bathurst 1000 in 21st place alongside Renee Gracie in an all female lineup, becoming the first female drivers in the series since Melinda Price in 1999.
Supercars have previously stated their desire to have a female race in the series full time and the series' CEO James Warburton believes the former Sauber Formula One hopeful is a perfect fit.
"The fact that she is the fastest female on four wheels will inspire a new generation of fans and showcase the potential and possibilities for women in the top tier of motorsport, which is an important ambition and we believe an obligation we have for our series," he is quoted by Autosport.
"Simona's achievements of having been Formula 1 test driver, been one of only three females to stand on an IndyCar podium and her achievements in karting and European championships absolutely makes her a target for Supercars."
"It's quite a remarkable career to consider when she is still only 27," he added. "Globally Simona has a number of options and people chasing her, all we can do is try and get to the front of the queue and believe me we are pushing."
Should de Silvestro make the move to competing down under full time, she will become the first full time European entrant since Robert Dahlgren in 2014
