Perez hoping to make up lost points in second half of the season

Sergio Perez is ready to get back into the action this weekend in Belgium as the long summer break concludes. The Mexican arrives in Belgium in high spirits after enjoying a strong season so far, amid the new aerodynamic regulations that came into play this year.

Force India rolled out with what appears to be the car that heads the midfield, as it sits in fourth place 60 points ahead of nearest rivals Williams. Red Bull is only 83 points ahead in third place - in contrast, the gap between the two last year at the same stage was 149 points.

Perez said that he is feeling refreshed after the break: "I’m feeling fresh and relaxed after the summer break and really looking forward to getting back to racing. I had a very nice break with my family, but now I can’t wait to be back on track.

"As we begin the second part of the season, I want to improve on what we have done so far. We have been competitive, but we also lost a few chances to score more points than we did. Hopefully we will make up for those lost points in the races to come."

Previewing the upcoming weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, the former McLaren driver is looking forward to racing on the track in the new generation of cars which produce much higher speeds through the corners.

"Belgium is the one of the best circuits to experience an F1 car. I love the high-speed layout, the history of the place and you get to meet some very passionate fans there. It’s just a great weekend and there is also the question mark over the weather. It nearly always rains at least one of the days.

"Pouhon is one of my favourite corners of the year. It’s so quick and satisfying when you get it just right. The 2017 cars will feel extra special through this part of the lap, as well as through Eau Rouge."

  • Spa should be another good race for the force India's, potential of a podium if things go there way I reckon!
