Giovinazzi hoping for 2018 race seat

Antonio Giovinazzi is hoping to secure a seat on the F1 grid for the 2018 Season, and Haas may be the key to his future in the sport. So far in 2017, Giovinazzi has contented in two grand prix, standing in for Pascal Wehrlein in Australia and China at Sauber

Most recently, Giovinazzi signed with Haas where he will compete in a number of FP1 sessions in 2017, the first of which was this weekend at the British Grand Prix where he drove instead of Kevin Magnussen in first practice.

"I'm not thinking about the future but just focusing on my work," said Giovinazzi when interviewed at Silverstone. "My goal is to compete in formula one, but now I'm more focused on these seven practices. After that, let's see what the options are for next year. I hope I can find a place but I know how difficult it is to get into formula one."

When asked if his chances of landing a seat with a Ferrari customer team such as Haas next year, the Italian answered:  "I think it's too early to talk about it. It's only July."

Giovinazzi competed in the GP2 Series last year for Prema Racing alongside Red Bull Junior Pierre Gasly. In the season, Giovinazzi took the fight to the Frenchman and the championship went to the wire in the final round in Abu Dhabi, where he was defeated by only eight points, finishing second in the standings.
