Reflecting on his first race as a Renault driver, Nico Hulkenberg says that he is disappointed to miss out on a points finish as he got so close to claiming tenth at the end of the Grand Prix.

In the latter stages of the race, himself, Esteban Ocon and Fernando all locked themselves in battle over the final points paying position. However, to the dismay of Hulkenberg, it was Force India's Ocon came out on top.

"I was quite close to points, but not quite even though it was very close. I think tenth would have been very possible and it was on the cards today but the first lap wasn't great. I tried to overtake a Toro Rosso and ended up losing a place to Fernando [Alonso], which really compromised my race, I was stuck and couldn't get passed."

Hulkenberg went on to say that he was caught in a lot of traffic in the second stint which hindered his progress. Nonetheless, he knows the team will gather some useful information from the car and use it to move forward in China.

"In the second stint I was also in lots of traffic, we decided to change the strategy and try something, we got one place over the McLaren but unfortunately not the Force India.

"But there is a lot of information learned, a lot of information about the car, tons of information we collected, a lot of information that we can now analyse and process."

Speaking about where the car could improve, he said: "Looking forward, I'm confident we can improve the car in set-up and I look forward to racing once again in China."
