Nico Rosberg was left lamenting a tough German Grand Prix after he failed to capitalise on pole position.
The German driver had dominated the weekend prior to the race, topping every single session but a bad start ended his chances of victory before the first turn.
"It was a really tough one today for sure," Rosberg said. "One of those days where it all comes together and goes completely wrong."
A key point in Rosberg's race was the penalty he received for forcing Max Verstappen off the road. Without it, Rosberg thinks Mercedes could have had a one-two finish.
"Without the penalty I was in front of the Red Bulls; with the penalty I couldn’t challenge them. [Finishing fourth] was down to the penalty," he said. "I was very surprised [by the penalty], I didn’t expect it at all. I thought the battle with Max was good, that’s about it."
