Lewis Hamilton takes Silverstone pole

Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position for the British Grand Prix after beating his team-mate by three tenths of a second.

"The last lap was sensational, but very close once again," says Mercedes' Niki Lauda."Lewis here at Silverstone with all the crowd behind him is maybe [worth] one tenth."

Daniel Ricciardo was out-qualified for the first time this season by his team-mate Max Verstappen.

There was two surprise exits in Q2 as Felipe Masa and Sergio Perez failed to reach the top 10. Jenson Button had some aerodynamic problems which hampered his efforts to progress past Q3. Marcus Ericsson was ruled out of qualifying and is currently in hospital on a precautionary checkup.
