Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheets in free practice 3, only marginally quicker than team-mate Nico Rosberg. The session was also red flagged for 12 minutes due to a heavy crash for Sauber's Marcus Ericsson
Ericsson put his left rear tyre over the kerb at turn 9, which spun the car and sent him into the barriers at high speed, destroying all four suspension corners. With Sauber struggling financially, it was the last thing they needed.
Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel also suffered from a failed gearbox at the end of the session, which could result in a five place grid penalty.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen was third, quicker than team mate Daniel Ricciardo, as Red Bull look to be Mercedes' closest challengers.
