Kimi Raikkonen crasht uit Rally della Marca

Ferrari-coureur Kimi Raikkonen heeft het einde van de Rally della Marca niet gehaald. De Fin crashte met zijn Fiat Abarth Grande Punto op de Italiaanse asfaltweggetjes. Aan het begin van het jaar nam Raikkonen al deel aan twee rallys en hij heeft de smaak helemaal te pakken.

Zijn co-piloot Kaj Lindstrom, eerder al werkzaam met de legendarische Tommi Makinen, onthulde: Vooruitkijkend is er inderdaad een plan. Ik durf te stellen dat het waarschijnlijk is dat Kimi dit jaar nog meer rallys gaat rijden.

Vind het wel cool van hem, Formule 1 is misschien wel de koningsklasse van de autosport maar ik denk toch echt dat Rally nog veeleisender is. Weet er iemand eigenlijk een goede site om de WRC te volgen, vind die site van WRC.com niet zo goed (net als dat ik F1 op deze site volg en niet op Formula1.com). Tnx!

Als ik Ferrari was verbood ik hem om rally\'s te rijden. Want stel dat hij het ziekenhuis in duikt dan zit het F-1 team met een probleem.

Het was trouwens niet 100% de schuld van Kimi, Lindstrom melde dat de Fiat Punto S2000 een kapotte differentieel had voor de crash en het eigenlijk wachten was wanneer tie kapot zou gaan.

The problems started as the pair drove to the pre-event shakedown. We knew something was wrong with the car and when the boys had a look they found the centre diff was broken, he said. They changed it for the rally but apparently it broke again, for reasons we dont yet know. The car wasnt working properly even on the first stage. It was like driving a rear-wheel drive car, but then every now and then youd get full four-wheel drive and the front wheels would pull. It was very inconsistent and made the handling nervous - especially under braking.

We did two stages, and then 4km into the third the car went off under braking and hit a concrete wall with a rear corner, breaking the lower control arm. We carried on for about 7km but we had to stop.

Lindstrom said Raikkonen had coped with the situation well, and hinted that more rally outings were on the cards. After the impact he said he wasnt that upset because the car wasnt performing as it should be, said Lindstrom. Even after the first stage we had given away a lot of time. It would have been a different story if the car had been okay. Looking forward, yeah, there is a plan. Id say its most likely he will do more rallies this year.
