Russell avoided frustration with Williams late testing start

Williams F1 rookie George Russell has spoke of how he avoided getting frustrated with his new team over the delayed start to testing over the week. Williams missed the first two days of the test, finally debuting the new FW42 on track in Wednesday afternoon's session.

Mercedes junior Russell joins the team to make his F1 debut after winning the Formula 2 championship last season, and has previously tested for the Mercedes and Force India teams. Although he did not let frustration get the better of him, he did express his annoyance at seeing other cars and teams on track.

"It has been quite annoying watching everyone on-track, and obviously as a driver you just want to get out there," Russell told Crash.net. "It has passed quite quickly because I have understood how much work has been going on for all the people building this car."

Williams finally managed to get the car to Barcelona early Wednesday morning, and after hard work to build the car throughout the morning, Russell gave the car it's first run in the afternoon session. Between Russell and teammate Robert Kubica, the team reached a total of 88 laps in the last two days' running.

"It was very important to get some mileage under our belt and just get a feel for the car," Russell added. "Also I’ve only done about 11 proper laps in the car, but it gives us a good understanding of where we are at and the limitations and what we need to work on."
