McLaren CEO Zack Brown says it is extremely important that Formula 1 introduces the new planned regulations for the 2021 season. The sport is set to run with revised engine and aerodynamic rules, however a number of teams have been opposed to their introduction.
But Brown fears that only two or three teams will be able to compete for the world championship if changes aren't made: "We have a journey to get back to winning races," he said. "And once you’re winning races you’re competing for the championship.

"I think it’s critical that Liberty make the changes to the sport that we discussed earlier because right now, the way the sport is going, it’s difficult for more than two or three teams to compete for the championship.
"So I think the things that are out of our control but hopefully we can influence, they need to change for multiple teams to be able to win races and compete for the championship. But we have laid out a journey, a message, a road of recovery that sees us getting back to the front of the grid in that time."
F1 will have new regulations in force this year, with aerodynamics being reduced after growing concerns about the quality of on-track racing. However, there are doubts that the new rules will have much of an effect, with teams finding new ways to produce similar levels of downforce.
McLaren will be targeting a more successful year in 2019 after managing sixth place in the constructors' championship last year. The Woking squad has recruited former Toro Rosso and Renault driver Carlos Sainz to partner rookie Lando Norris.

Two-three teams competing for wins is already were we are at. Its where we've been for several years by now.

Calle, this is really simple for me. F1 doesn't need these powerful teams as much as they need it - and even if I'm wrong, then it got to be worth the price a couple years of reduced viewing figures and then recovery in the right hands to see a proper level playing field, stopping short of 'stock' cars like Indy, but sensible high powered V8s - get rid of this stupid money craze and bring the sport back to the masses. Liberty won't want to rock the boat, but its in their best medium term interest to do this otherwise viewers will switch off. Seriously, how crap does it have to be, Marc, Ferrari and RBR top three teams, rest some way off - we already know 2019s pecking order !!!!
