Robert Kubica has tested Renault's simulator, driving the RS17. The Pole is attempting a comeback to Formula 1 after pulling from the sport due to an injury in 2011. Kubica tested in Valencia last month, completing 115 laps in the Lotus E20.
Since the test, Renault has confirmed that they will be handing the 32-year-old another private session, this time to test his capabilities of a full-time return. He has been linked with a full-time drive with Renault for the 2018 season, replacing Jolyon Palmer.
"I was able to try the car in its configuration for this year," Kubica told Sky Italia. "The day went pretty well, but I do not want to go into details. But yes, I had the opportunity. I was happy and so was the team," he added.
One issue that may halt the race winner's resurgence is his right forearm, which is partially severed. His movements are limited while driving a car, which could conjure issues at some corners like the hairpin at Monaco.
"In my life I've had better days," he answered when asked if he would be able to cope with the full rigours of life as a F1 driver, "but also much, much worse. The current situation is good, I think. Stable and good. Many things have changed in my head, too. I do not have certain limitations that I used to have."
And so Kubica does not hide that he is pushing hard to come back to Formula 1: "If something happens there will be satisfaction, but I just have to keep a cool head. The step I took in Valencia was huge and I have to go step by step now. I hope I can get closer to the dream goal -- I will not hide it."
