Marcus Ericsson: "Canada result maximum for Sauber"

Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson believed he extracted the maximum from his car on a weekend where the car struggled for pace. The Saubers locked out the back row of the grid in qualifying after Wehrlein crashed in Q1.

They managed thirteenth and fifteenth in the race with the McLaren of Stoffel Vandoorne sandwiched between them. It was a race that always looked difficult for the team on paper with its underpowered-year-old Ferrari engine, so the poor result was perhaps to be expected for the team.

"Overall it has been a tough weekend, but I got the maximum out of the car in the race," said the Swedish driver. "We made a step forward with our tyre management throughout the race [and] the pace that I had was similar to our direct competitors for most parts of the race. Now we have to build on that and take those insights with us to Baku."

Teammate Wehrlein started from the pit lane after his crash but came home two laps down on the leaders. He added: "It was a difficult weekend, for one because of the crash in qualifying, and also because I could not keep up with the lap times of the competition, We have to make sure that we understand the reason for that."
