Antonio Giovinazzi is delighted with his Sauber call up after he was drafted in to replace Pascal Wehrlein for the rest of the weekend due to continuing back problems for the German.
Giovinazzi will therefore make his race debut on Sunday and lines up in his first ever race sixteenth, only two-tenths of a second away from Q2.
"That is a special day for me kicking off my first Formula One Grand Prix weekend,” he said. "I am really happy with my performance today, I was just a few tenths away from Q2."
Despite only setting 26 laps through practice three and qualfying, the Italian will have to contest 56 in the race tomorrow, admitting that it will be tough: "It will be a long race tomorrow. A lot can happen here in Melbourne. I will do my best to put in my maximum performance."
