Gene Haas looking for further Ferrari collaboration

Haas F1 team founder Gene Haas has said he would like his team to collaborate more with Ferrari.

The Formula One newcomers already receive a number of components, including engines and hybrid systems, from the Italian manufacturer. A number of staff have also moved from Ferrari to Haas prior to this season, but Haas thinks that the partnership between the two teams could stretch further.4

"The model does work really well with Ferrari, and if anything I hope we can get more out of it too," Haas told Autosport. "There's always been some hesitation on Ferrari's part, as far as working with us, because of the FIA regulations. So they've been very, very careful to be sure they follow everything by the rules, and we've been very upfront with the FIA about exactly what they're doing. In retrospect, I think we could've done more."

Haas exceeding expectations

Speaking of their first season in F1, Haas said his team has outperformed expectations.

"You know I think we’re really kind of way ahead of where we planned on being in terms of the maturity of the team,” Haas told F1i. “For example, the team did really well [in Hungary] in qualifying. They had a lot of changes between wets and intermediates and dry tyres and I think they proved they could get things done quickly and efficiently and that was all positive."

"They’ve done very well. I would assume that would have taken twice as long as it has and for most teams it takes two or three years even to get where we are and what we’ve done in less than six months."

Haas currently sits eighth in the constructors' championship, considerably ahead of the more experienced Renault, Manor, and Sauber teams, while the legendary McLaren team are just 14 points ahead of them.
