Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn has said that even if the team had secured new investment prior to this week's final in-season test at Silverstone, the decision regarding their involvement would be no different.
Although originally giving the reason for missing the test as "cost effectiveness", Kaltenborn has said that the potential benefits of the test were not enough to warrant the team taking part.

"I wouldn't do it differently if we had more funding, because you have to see what's coming and where we are," Autosport quotes Kaltenborn as saying. "That's [ the costs] got nothing to do with us not taking part in the test. In any business, unless you get subsidies for it, you look at what it costs you and what the benefits are."
"I just wonder what this test is going to get you in terms of next year [when there is a significant regulation change]," she continued. "I'm not finding reasons not to be there, I'm just looking at our situation."
Sauber are reported to have aerodynamic revisions on the way, but hey were not ready in time for the British Grand Prix or the post-race test.
"We have a few things coming and we're confident they will work because in the past we have done it like this," she said. "If we're delayed on that, it makes no sense to test. We don't have more, and any other decision would be a careless one."
Sauber driver Felipe Nasr backed up the claims that the new updates were not ready in time for the test, but said the team expects to use them in coming races.
"We have a new aerodynamic package," he said, "but it's not ready yet so we won't test."
"The plan is to use the package in Hungary or Germany," he added.
"At Sauber everyone is excited again as we see that there is potential for us again, which was not the case until a few days ago."
