Day 1, Test 3 - Bahrain Report: Perez leads the way

Day 1 of the third and final pre-season Formula 1 test from Sakhir, Bahrain at 9am (Local Time) this morning with perfect weather conditions.

The green light signalled the start of the session with Valtteri Bottas and Daniil Kvyat making the first appearances on-track for Williams and Toro Rosso. Max Chilton for Marussia and Kimi Raikkonen for Ferrari quickly followed them for installation laps.

Red Bull's RB10 was piloted by Daniel Ricciardo today, who set the first timed-lap of a 1:40.262. However, their Renault-powered counterparts Caterham stopped on-track due to a technical issue, which saw the first red flag of the day being brought out.

The French engine-supplier fared no better later on, with Lotus, who brought a heavily-revised car to the test again suffered problems with Maldonado stopping on track. After completing only 31 laps, the British-based squad called it a day after a newly-designed exhaust failed. Kvyat also stopped in his Toro Rosso during the afternoon.

Kimi Raikkonen also came to a halt shortly before the session came to an end, his Ferrari F14 T was left stranded at the side of the track, the Red flag was again brought out.

Despite their aforementioned troubles it was a generally positive day for both Red Bull and Ferrari pace-wise, who also completed a total of 93 laps between them.

McLaren, Williams and Force India also fared well completing over 100 laps after running Race Simulations, with the latter setting the fastest lap overall with a 1:35.290 in the hands of Mexican Sergio Perez.

Testing will return tomorrow morning again from 9am and you can follow F1Today.net for Live Updates throughout the day.
