Before the second week of testing got underway today in Barcelona, the Williams team launched their 2013 contender after using their 2012 car in Jerez. This was because the team wanted to make more aerodynamic developments before the car hit the track.
Armed with the Renault engines, the car also has very small sidepods and a non-stepped nose. Even though the rules havent changed that much, the car is 80% new, including a new gearbox, rear suspension, radiators, floor and more.
Technical director Mike Coughlan said, Im pleased with the gains that weve been able to make with this car. Its a better, more refined Formula 1 car that the FW34 and I think everyone involved in the project can feel proud of the work theyve done.
The team had a tough 2012, even though they won the Spanish Grand Prix. Williams finished the season in 8th place and will be hoping to improve on this in 2013. Pastor Maldonado has been retained for this season but he will be partnered with Valtteri Bottas instead of Bruno Senna.
