Steiner 'couldn't believe' he watched his two cars collide

Haas team principal Guenther Steiner says he couldn't believe he watched his two cars collide on the opening lap of the British Grand Prix.

Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen made contact on the exit of Turn 5, which ultimately put both of them out of the race.

Steiner hit out at the pair, insisting that he clarified after their close battle in Barcelona that touching each other was unacceptable.

"It's not acceptable. I was pretty clear with them after Barcelona what not to do," Steiner said. "We are in a difficult position at the moment to get the car back on track.

"Everyone is working hard like hell and then you get the chance and we crash into each other at Turn 5. It's not acceptable."

"I'm obviously disappointed because everyone is working hard to get out of this hole that we are in. And you can see that, we do the almost impossible.

"And then when we have the chance to get points or to at least learn something to move forward, they do something like this."

Steiner added that he will work out a solution to implement to ensure that the pair do not come together again.

"I need to sleep over it, I need to wind down and we will come up with a solution. That's my job and whatever the solutions are we will push them through. We are a team and everyone needs to work for the team and not for himself here.

"I want everybody to be steering in the right direction. When I saw it on TV I couldn't almost believe it. There are two cars running into each other, and it is our two."

Grosejan, destroyed front wing during pratice and colided during the race. It doesn't look good for him since he has no contract. I think Ocon will replace him in 2020.

    • I know it's not likely but I would love to see Alex Rossi in there

    • I'd love Rosenqvist in that car. Either or both need to go, and my vote is on Grosjean.

BTW, "touching each other was unacceptable" out of context is pretty golden! That's some fanfic material right there! XD

    • It would be nice to see Ocon there. Rossi's not really up to snuff, but JEV would be great in an F1 car again. Don't think he would want to move back to a 'lesser' formula now.

    • @f1fan he is. I dunno how he does over there tbh, but he usually tend to drive pretty well in other series.

@Ram Would no doubt be rad to have JEV back. I always found it a waste that RB just ditched him.

    • I blame Haas for retaining them. They have proven multiple times that they lack respect for other drivers and for the team. Whether by crashing into each other, stupid antics with other drivers, unforced errors, reprehensible radio messages diminishing the team, the constant whining and finger pointing... I blame Haas.

Hopefully this was a lesson learned and we can get a couple of really exciting drivers. I'd vote for Ocon and Vergne. I still don't understand how the latter was dropped by Red Bull and couldn't find another seat.

    • Surprised they brought him on board again this year. Now Steiner is realizing his mistake. While banging his head on the desk, Steiner keeps repeating "Che cazzo fai!?!?"

Romain and Kevin, its Gunther here....

When your back in the garage im not the first person you come and see...

Monday morning both of you come and see me in my office first thing is that clear.....

Kevin **Roman can suck my .... it was his fault as usual**
Roman ** No no no It was the tracks fault it moved**

2 worst drivers any team could have, they have no respect for any other drivers, and zero respect for the team and the hard work that goes on...

Roll on the next Netflix series ;p

  • I kind think time's up for Romain, when a team needs to learn and build, remain focussed and do the shift, Romain is not your mean. Agree with the posts above, time for Ocon to be given a race seat, Bottas' performances leave him with little chance of getting the main seat in F1.

    Honestly....
Since Grojean drives at 101 % in qualifying, he either beats Magnussen or wrecks the car.
Magnussen on the other side rins at 99 % during qualifying and very selvdom crashes.

When it comes to the race, Grojean isn't very competitive, having problems to even stay on the track.
There is much debate abou Magnussens way of fighting in the race, but he is fighting for his position, very much the way Verstappen fights. Taking some riscs and goes to the edge and sometimes over the edge, but isn't that not what we want to see, considering the fact that F1 has a big problem bekng very uneventfull after the first lap ?

Magnussens biggest problem is being in a small team thst in both 2017 and especially in 2018 oufought teams that should have been ahead of Haas, causing their drivers to unrightfull flame Magnussen, cause they had a bad time accepting that he was doing better than them.

Regarding the incident at Silverstone, I find both drivers where equally failing, but on the first lap with so much going on and the adrenalin high, it was simply bound to happen.
