Ferrari confirms engine change for Raikkonen

Ferrari has confirmed an engine change for Kimi Raikkonen. During FP2, Raikkonen's Ferrari suffered a power unit failure. This incident deprived the Finn of doing any race run simulations during the FP2 session. The Italian team confirmed via social media that the "the full block – ICE, turbo and MGU-H – on Kimi’s car will be taken down for checks and replaced for Saturday."

By changing his engine, Raikkonen became the third driver to already use his second engine, turbocharger and MGU-H, with Daniel Ricciardo and Pierre Gasly being the other two drivers to do so. Giving F1 new regulations of using only three engines per season, it is very likely for Raikkonen to receive a grid penalty in the later stages of the season.

When asked about the engine problem, Raikkonen replied briefly: "At one point we had some issues and I was told by the team to stop the car. We still don’t know what happened, but we’ll figure it out. In the evening we’ll have some work to do; we’ll go through everything and understand."
