Zak Brown denies McLaren juniors promised F1 debut

A McLaren junior driver has backtracked after saying Zak Brown has promised him he will move into F1 next year if he wins the Formula 2 title. Nyck de Vries had told a Dutch publication that the promise is "spelled out in black and white" in his contract, "and that's what Zak told me". "The same conditions apply to Norris," Dutchman de Vries added.

But McLaren executive Brown denies it. "That is not an accurate reflection of the conversation," he said in Bahrain. "But Nyck's a very good driver and McLaren will always look to put the two best drivers that it can in the car. No one has any promises from McLaren verbally or contractually as to who is going to be in our car in 2019," Brown insisted.

And suddenly, 23-year-old de Vries is not willing to talk about the topic at all. "Unfortunately I can't," he said in Bahrain. "You shouldn't ask anything else about it because I cannot answer." (GMM)

Nyck should first keep up with Lando Norris.
He got he ass kicked in Bahrain by Lando. He has to beat him this season and as it looks now, he is (unfortunately) far from it

similar to Pierre Gasly big mouth in 2016 season when he was telling he will replace Daniil Kvyat... that probably cost him seat at Toro Rosso for whole 2017 season.

Having a distorted version of reality, yeah, this guy will fit right in at McLaren.

  • Nyck needs serious help with a couple of things (1) keeping up with Lando Norris and (2) PR training. Why the hell would he go out talking about promises being made? Even if they were true, which I seriously doubt.

Think this is one of those, that not all the contract was taken in ;p

And the confidentuality clause has been broken by admitting confidentual details..

Adios to any chance of that seat, and even more Adios to it finishing second at the end of the year ;p
