The Sochi Autodrome has named one of the grandstands after Vitaly Petrov, the first Russian Formula 1 driver. He made his F1 debut in 2010 for Renault, with his greatest achievement coming in 2011, when he finished on the podium in Australia.

The 32-year-old spent his final year racing in F1 for back-markers Caterham in 2012, before moving into DTM in 2014. Last year he competed with SMP racing in the World Endurance Championship.

"This is a really significant event in my life," said Petrov. "I'm sure that the grandstand named after me will always be packed, because it is located in one of the most exciting places of the track, where at the end of a straight the cars accelerate to 339 km/h.

"All 20 drivers will be attacking each other at the entry of the second right-hand corner; throughout the race, we will also see some amazing overtakes."

The turn 3 grandstand has already been named in honour of the only other Russian driver, Daniil Kvyat who currently races with Toro Rosso.
