Magnussen 'disappointed' to hear Renault criticism

Kevin Magnussen says he was "disappointed" to hear about his former Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul's recent parting shot. Last week, as the Danish driver heads to Haas for 2017, his former Renault chief Abiteboul said Magnussen "stood still" last year.

"Personally, I was disappointed in Magnussen, for his performances and his behaviour," the Frenchman told Auto Hebdo magazine. "Kevin is a talented driver, but he lacks discipline. Also, he tries all too often to make excuses."

When asked about those disparaging remarks, Magnussen said during a visit to Haas' F1 headquarters: "I will not comment on Cyril's opinions at all." Asked by the Danish newspaper BT if he really wants to leave Abiteboul's claims unchallenged, Magnussen insisted: "Yes, I can do that. I don't think it will do any good to talk about it. But it's clear that I am surprised. And disappointed," the 24-year-old added.

For Magnussen, the comments are actually an unfortunate pattern, as following his departure from McLaren he was similarly criticised by Ron Dennis. "Yes, I can see that. But what should I do?" Magnussen responded.

Asked if his former teams might both be guilty of pointing fingers rather than acknowledging their own shortcomings, he concluded: "It could be something like that." (GMM)

Kev should laugh it off, it's not even worth a response. Renault are butthurt it's almost like they know they are going suck bad in 2017, might as well start the blame games and diversions eh?

    The real loser in all of this though is Hulkenberg. He has to bide his time play the long game beyond 2017, unless some top seat open up for 2018.

      I agree with you. You can not find more ambitious people than a formula one driver.
      They will do everything in order to win.
      As i have written before, Cyril Abiteboul(sh!t) is trying to blame others for his own faults.
      Remember last year, they called 2016 a transsission year, and now Hulkenberg is calling 2017 the same!
      This season is going to be very interesting...

    • My money is on Renault sucking big time. As for Haas, it can go either way.

    I though that Kevin was tailing of towards the end. Palmer has been improving; however maybe there is a direct relationship between the quality of the drivers and the team they are in.

    works for me like this:

    Mercedes : Hamilton/Bottas --> drivers 9/8 , car 10
    Red bull: DR/Ves --> drivers 9/9 , car 9
    Ferrari: Vettel/Kimi --> 8/8, 8.5
    mcLaren ... yeah --> 8/8, 7
    Haas 7/6 , 7
    Renault .. 6/6, 6
    Williams .... not sure (Massa underperformed, Stroll is unknown), 8
    Force India ... 8/7, 8
    Manor ... no idea
    Sauber 6/6, 6
