Daniil Kvyat's Formula One future remains in his own hands, according to Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost.
Kvyat was demoted back to Toro Rosso prior the Spanish Grand Prix and since then has had a relatively poor season.
He appeared to regain his form in Singapore with a great fight with his Red Bull successor Max Verstappen, but many still predict that the Russian won't retain his seat for next season.
"It's Daniil Kvyat's decision," Tost said. "If he performs well, if he comes up with good results then there's a big chance he will continue with us.
"We are sitting together with Red Bull, with Dietrich Mateschitz and Helmut Marko. In the end it's always a performance decision."
And on the rumours that Pierre Gasly could replace the Russian in 2017:
"Gasly is the next Red Bull young driver and he is also a skilled driver. He showed some fantastic races in GP2 and he is in front of the championship, so we will see."
