Drivers hoping for closer field following series takeover

Sergio Perez hopes that the Formula One field will get closer following it's takeover by Liberty Media Group.

The drivers present in Thursday's press conference in Singapore were asked what they would like to see changed within the sport following the takeover, and Force India driver was first to air his views, saying he hoped to see midfield teams challenging for wins in the future.

"I think I would love to see Formula One a lot closer, the competition a lot closer, closer teams, giving the midfield teams the opportunity to be capable of winning a race, fighting for titles," he said. "I think that would be just something great for the fans to see one race Williams on top, another race another team, that would just be very good and for that you need to change the system, how you divide the money because there’s obviously a massive difference, so I think that would be a very good thing for the sport."

Every other driver in the press conference agreed with Perez's sentiments, with Sauber's Felipe Nasr adding that a closer field would be better for the fans.

"I think the most important thing is to see closer competition between the cars, I think that’s what I hear from people or from fans – they always like to see more fighting on track between car, between teams," said the Brazilian. "I think the closing line is what were looking for but also next year we have a big change in terms of the cars being different. I think everything will be a bit more aggressive in terms of the racing itself so let’s wait and see how it goes and we’ll take it from there."
