Kevin Magnussen has not done enough to secure his Formula One future.
That is the belief of former F3000 driver Jason Watt, who thinks that Magnussen's Renault team mate Jolyon Palmer is starting to outperform his fellow Dane.
"That's his main problem," Watt told Ekstra Bladet newspaper. "Palmer has started to grow with the task. So it looks like Kevin's level has dropped."
If that were to continue, Watt thinks that Palmer will be more likely to be retained, particularly because his backers pay "probably four times" what Magnussen's do.
"There are those moments when you think 'I would like to see more from him'. So that the international press cannot help but say he should have his chance," Watt added.

Not really Magnussen falling behind, more like Palmer catching up. Saying Magnussen has dropped is to downtalk both Palmer and Magnussen.

Agree, he is taking a little time but he is getting better. Not sure if Renault will retrain either.

Im not sure either, but I honestly think its a bad idea to replace either. Magnussen is a good driver, and Palmer has honestly not had a proper chance with a competitive car yet. They should at least wait until the next season to evaluate the drivers, any move before then feels a bit premature.

If Renault can sign Bottas and put Ocon next to him it would a better combo than KMAG and Palmer. I don't think that either driver currently merits a Renault factory drive. I think that the new Renault chassis will be a redesign anyway so new drivers would not have a negative impact.
