Robin Frijns eyeing IndyCar future

Former Formula One test driver Robin Frijns has set his sights on a race seat in IndyCar ahead of his first test in America's top single seater category.

The Dutchman, who had stints with Sauber and Caterham, currently races for Andretti's Formula E programme but will sample one of the team's IndyCars at Mid Ohio tomorrow.

"If everything goes well, maybe I will have an opportunity next year or in a few years' time," he said. "It's the Formula 1 of America, so it's the highest level you can achieve and that's a good thing.

"If I have the opportunity to jump in for a full season, I will."

Despite looking forward to the test, Frijns admits his time out of a high-powered single seater cockpit, and his unfamiliarity with the track will pose a challenge

"It's a new car, a new track – there's a lot to learn and I have to get used to it," said the 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 champion. "It's been a while since I drove a really high-downforce car – I have to go back to the Formula 1 days.

"There's lots of new things I'm not used to. Hopefully I'll learn a lot before I jump in the car," he continued. "Of course I want to be competitive, but with one day to learn everything, it's quite tough."
