Raikkonen to start from the pit lane after qualifying disqualification

Kimi Raikkonen has officially been disqualified from qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix after his front wing failed a deflection test.

The Alfa Romeo driver will take the start in the pit lane, joining Pierre Gasly and Robert Kubica. The disqualification means just 17 cars will line up on the grid.

Charles Leclerc will now start from P8 in the Ferrari, despite crashing out in the second stage of qualifying on Saturday.

A report from the FIA read: "A front wing flap deflection test was carried out on car number 07.

“As the front wing flap deflected more than 5 mm under a load of 60 N and as this is not in compliance with Article 3.9.8 of the 2019 Formula One Technical Regulations.”

In the official FIA technical regulations, Article 3.9.8 states: “Any part of the trailing edge of any front wing flap may deflect no more than 5mm, when measured along the loading axis, when a 60N point load is applied normal to the flap.”

Raikkonen qualified for the race in ninth place but was set to move up one spot due to a penalty for teammate Antonio Giovinazzi, who qualified eighth.

Gasly was excluded from qualifying prior to the actual session, as he didn't take to the FIA weigh bridge when called to do so during free practice two.

Kubica's car had parts changed following his crash in qualifying, with Williams confirming on Sunday morning that it would take to the pit lane for the Grand Prix start.
