Fernando Alonso will mull over his options for 2018 over the summer break. The future of the Spaniard is unknown after he has been left disgruntled by the lack of performance from McLaren-Honda. Alonso joined the reunited partnership in 2015 but has since had a best finish of fifth place.
What's more, Honda's reliability has taken a turn for the worst this season after some steady progress was made in 2016. From the eleven Grands Prix so far in 2017, the two-time world champion has seen the chequered flag just three times.
"I’ll be thinking about my future during the break, for sure,” Alonso said. "As I’ve sad before, September/October is my timeline to decide what I’ll do next year. I want to win, I think I’m at the top of my game now. So let’s hope everything goes well and we’ll find the best solution for everybody."
Alonso has vowed that he will be in a winning car next year, but Mercedes and Ferrari have since said that they do not want him. McLaren is set to stick with Honda for next season unless they can work a miraculous deal that will see them run Renault units in 2018.
