Frederic Vasseur confirmed as new Sauber team principal

Sauber has confirmed that its new team principal will be Frederic Vasseur. Vasseur was the team principal at Renault in 2016, before suddenly departing prior to the 2017 season after a number of disagreements with the team.

Vasseur comes in to replace Monisha Kaltenborn who was also a sudden departure from the F1 paddock. Kaltenborn was released in the build-up to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and it was highly expected that Vasseur would step in to replace her.

"I’m very proud to be joining Sauber Motorsport AG, and wish to thank the company’s shareholders for their trust in me," Vasseur stated. "I’ve been impressed by the facilities in Hinwil and by the talent and ambition of the workforce, and I very much look forward to complementing the team with my experience and determination and drive all people in the right direction in everything they do.

"I am convinced that all together we will achieve ambitious targets. I cannot wait to start working with our drivers, engineers and all the staff. I look forward to contributing to the next important phase in the development of the team."

The Frenchman has also been handed the role of Managing Director & CEO of Sauber Motorsport AG, and will start his duties on the 17th of July, after this weekends Britsh Grand Prix.

Coincidence with the rumour that Honda & Sauber will not happen? Renault engines anyone?

    • Could be, but I doubt it. As far as I know, Vasseur cut his ties with Renault, and it wasnt done in a friendly fashion. I still think a Honda deal is more likely, but I wont be surprised by anything at this point.
