Kaltenborn sure of Honda improvement

Sauber F1 Team boss Monisha Kaltenborn is confident that Honda will continue to improve over the remainder of the season before joining forces next season.

Sauber announced on Sunday that they will end their long-standing relationship with engine supplier Ferrari from 2018, with embattled Japanese firm Honda set to supply the Swiss squad from next year.

Honda have been beset by performance and reliability issues in 2017, with setbacks in pre-season and the first three races of this season putting current sole partner McLaren months behind schedule.

This has not deterred Sauber seeking to replace their Ferrari Power Units with those from Honda, however, and they seem to be up for the fight despite the issues.

"We will continue our challenges so that our fans will enjoy seeing a Honda with dominant strength as soon as possible," said a Honda communications spokesperson.

Kaltenborn echoed the thoughts, appearing confident that Honda can put their current issues behind them in order to become more competitive.

"Do I think they will improve? I am sure of it," she told Russia's Championat.

"I remember the situation with other manufacturers and we see where they are now. Honda will be no different," said Kaltenborn.
