First Mclaren Honda win will be a "massive achievement"

Fernando Alonso has said that the first win of the renewed McLaren Honda partnership will be a big moment for everyone in the team.

The British team has been way off the pace since reuniting with old engine partner Honda at the start of last season, but Alonso has always been optimistic that success would come in time.

"I think the first win with this project will be quite a big thing for any of us," Alonso is quoted by Crash.net. "I don't know if I will have that chance, or if Stoffel will have that chance or whatever, but when that day arrives everyone that was involved in this project from day one, from the very beginning, from zero, from being 10 seconds away in winter testing last year, 5.8 seconds in Australia last year."

"When arrive that first win it will be a massive achievement and hopefully we will feel very proud."

  • But first they have to actually get up there, and hopefully they will be up there next year. I can see them in the top 5, maybe even top 4, but to beat the likes of Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari they'll need a whole loot of oompf and a chassis to match that.
