Felipe Nasr: The story so far

Sauber's Felipe Nasr turns 24 today, so what better day to look back over his racing career so far.

Nasr began karting at the age of seven and was highly successful in his youth, winning multiple championships and already producing a great name for himself. He graduated to Formula BMW and claimed a podium in his second race at Interlagos.

The following year, Nasr raced in Formula BMW Europe where he dominated and won the title by 104 points. He was called to test with Sauber as they were linked to BMW, but because BMW left Sauber at the end of 2009, the plans to test for the team fell apart.

In 2011, Nasr competed in the British Formula Three series with Raikkonen Robertson Racing, where in his first year he finished fifth. In 2012 he signed for Carlin Motorsport and won the championship, finishing ahead of team-mate Kevin Magnussen

2012 saw a big promotion for Nasr as he signed for DAMS to compete in the GP2 series. He took four podiums and finished tenth in the overall standings with a best finish of second. He moved to Carlin in 2013 and finished fourth in the overall standings, taking his first win at Barcelona and more at Austria, Great Britain and Belgium.

On 22nd February 2014, Williams confirmed that Nasr would be their test driver for the 2014 season. He made his on-track debut at the Bahrain Grand Prix, replacing Valtteri Bottas for the first practice session. He took part in a further four free practice sessions and three test sessions for the team that year.

On 5th November 2014, Sauber confirmed that Nasr would be driving for them in the 2015 season. On his debut at the Australian Grand Prix he finished in fifth position, a record for the best debut from a Brazilian. The result remains as his personal best in Formula One and he finished his maiden season in thirteenth.

Nasr continues to drive for Sauber in 2016.
